The following material on the immediate ancestry of the three Miller sisters should not be considered either exhaustive or definitive, but rather as a second draft.

A previous version of this ancestry (the first draft, if you will), was published as "Etude 51" in C. E. D. R. E. (Cercle d'Etudes des Dynasties Royales Europeennes), Bulletin No. 63 & 64 [1995].

74 -- Isaac Samuels is described in A. Forbes and J. W. Greene, The Rich Men of Massachusetts [Boston: W.V.Spencer, 1851], p. 55, as follows:
        Samuels, Isaac 100,000
A German Jew. Commenced poor, accumulated wealth poor, is
still poor, and in all human probility will ever remain poor -- if ap-
pearance is any evidence. Has had an indefinite amount of experience
in "truck and dicker," in a cellar, where his operations were for a
long time carried on. Some of our richest and most enterprising men,
now standing on high ground, have started in a cellar.

79 -- A brother of number 38 (above), namely James Thresher Edson, married a sister of number 39 (above), namely Susan Tarbell Stevens. In the discussion of this marriage in the 1962 Edson genealogy (page 826, number 247-22), Susan Tarbell Steven is described as "daughter of William Stevens and Charlotte Oddlin, who was an Indian."

If this description is accurate, and Charlotte Oddlin (number 79) was an Indian, then she was probably a member of the Passamaquoddy or Penobscot nations, as these were the Indians who were native to the area around Waterville, Maine. Other Indian nations in that area at that time, but which had moved there from what is now New Brunswick, were the Maliseet and the Micmac. All of these were Abenaki.

There is no confirmation of Charlotte Oddlin's alleged Indian origin from any known Indian records.

89 -- Almost certainly a daugher of a William Bearisto, who with his brother Johnson Bearisto came to Prince Edward Island from Massachusetts in the 18th century. If this identification is correct, then the following ancestors can be added:

     178      William Bearisto
     179      NN

     356      William Bearisto (1716-1779) m. 1738
     357      Hannah Jackson (-1758)

     712      William Bearisto (1692-) m. 1715
     713      Elizabeth Walker (1689-)
     714      Ephraim Jackson (-1748), a cooper
     715      Mary Currier

     1424      George Barstow (1652-1726)
     1425      Mercy Woodward (1656-1726)
     1426      Thomas Walker (-1732), a bricklayer

     2859      Mary (1613-1694)

     5698      Thomas Merritt
     5699      Susannah

136 -- The Ancestral File ver 4.17, at AFN:1COS-QJ6, gives an unlikely birthplace and parentage of this John Springer. If it is accurate, then the following ancestors can be added:

     272      John Springer (1724/30-1783) m. 1753
     273      Hannah Trufant

     544      James Springer (1698-1772)
     545      Joanna Low (1709-)
