NOTES

2 -- See http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/01/28/1043534043252.html?oneclick=true.

14 -- Much of the ancestry of Henry Dicken can be found in the vicinity of Wirksworth, in Derbyshire. See http://www.wirksworth.org.uk, for instance.

24 & 25 -- Maple Ridge Cemetery: Part IV - Biographical Material: pp. 55-56

John W. Hawkins, was born 1838-1840 in Vermont, the youngest of 13 children. His father was born in England and his mother was born in Ireland. John died 27 Apr. 1903 at age 64 and is buried at Maple Ridge Cemetery Lot 7. A biographical sketch in a Huron Co. history for his son Sheldon Johnson Hawkins, says that John's father died in the Mexican War when John was about 6 years old. Exactly when he came to Ohio is not clear, but he married 1860-61 in Ohio (not found in Cuyahoga, perhaps in Erie Co.) and during the Civil War was mustered in with Co. I of the 150th Regiment OVI (National Guard) on 5 May 1864. This unit was raised in Dover, Olmsted and Rockport for one hundred days service and were mustered out 23 Aug. 1864 at Cleveland. (John's first wife was Vannie Hillman).

Katherine D. Hawkins, born 21 Jul. 1850 in Germany, was the daughter of John Drescher and Christiana Shenk, both born in Germany. She died 6 Mar. 1925 in North Olmsted at the home of her daughter Maude Paddock. She is also buried at Maple Ridge Cemetery Lot 7. It appears that was married previously to a Mr. Darmstatter, as Henry Darmstatter, age 9, stepson, is living with John and Katherine in 1880 and Cuyahoga County records a marriage of 23 Aug. 1873 for John N? Hawkins to Katie Donnstetter (sic).

A death record found in Cuyahoga Co. death records for John Drescher, Katherine's father, reports he died Mar. 24, 1880 in Dover Twp, at age 69; that he was born in Ostenheim, Germany and the he was the son of a John Drescher.

In 1900 Katherine was the mother of 10 children, 8 living. Besides the Henry mentioned her above, her children by John Hawkins: .... (5) Eugene A., b. June. 1881, d. 1 May 1949 Hartsville, OH, wife Nina.....

52 -- A "Warren Spaulding" appears in the 1860 census as:
1860 - Michigan, Jackson Co., Summit, page 143, line 18

Warren Spaulding 32 M Farm Laborer 1200 260 Vt
Harriet " 25 F NY
Edgar " 7 M Mich
Elbert " 4 M Mich
   (1 servant, 4 farm laborers)

This Warren Spaulding is the one treated in the Spaulding genealogy as the one born at Shoreham, Addison Co., Vt., on 13 Aug. 1826, son of Ira Spaulding and Chloe Rockwell.

108 & 109 -- Perhaps the couple William Johnson and Anne Eyre who married at Long Buckby, Northampton, England 14 March 1819 [Bishops transcripts, 1813-1840, FHL Film #1999034 item 2]

477 -- Several unsourced WorldConnect databases say that this Dinah Beresford (whose husband, John Sims, was a mason) was a daughter of Sir Tristram Beresford (d. 1741), a great-nephew of another Tristram Beresford, whose son Sir Tristram Beresford was created a Baronet and who was ancestor of the Earls of Tyrone and the Marquesses of Waterford. This parentage, if accurate, would give Dinah Beresford, and thus Halle Berry, a wide variety of prominent ancestors and relatives.

3552 & 3553 have other descendants, such as:

Thomas Van Swearingen m. Jane ----
.Thomas Swearingen m. Lydia Riley
 .Luranna Swearingen m. Edward Teague
  .Michael Teague m. Maria Stolz
   .Michael Teague m. Catherine Holder

.Michael Taylor Carmichael m. Sarah Emma Campbell
.Howard Clyde Carmichael m. Lida Mary Robison

FURTHER NOTES
