NOTES

1 (3846/7814/15814) -- For my descents from William Washburne, see here.

8 (30768/62512/126512) -- Ada C. Height, in The Richard Washburn family [1937], says that this John Washbourne (d. ca. 1548), of Bengeworth, was the second son of John Washbourne (buried in Wickenford Church, Worcestershire, on 6 May 1517) by his first wife Joan Mytton. John G. Hunt, in "Clues to the origin of Washbourne, Willets, Whitehead, Williams families of Hempstead, L. I., and Nicholls family of Stratford, Conn.", in The American Genealogist, vol. 36, no. 1 [Jan. 1960], pp. 62-64, at p. 63, points out that E. A. B. Barnard, F.S.A., in Some notes on the Evesham branch of the Washbourne family [Evesham: W. & H Smith Ltd., 1914], on pp. 42-46, shows that Washbournes were living at Bengeworth long before John Washbourne (d. ca. 1548) is said to have moved there, thus raising doubt as to whether John (d. ca. 1548) was a son of John (d. 1517) or not. Until this is resolved, the baronial ancestry of Joan Mytton is unavailable to the Washbournes of Bengeworth and their descendants.
